Hello, I found a micromatic open comb version at a local antique store. It is in very good condition and I really want to like it,but I can't get it to remove much, if anything. I have tried different angles of the razor and nothing.I am hoping someone can share advice or technique tips. I also picked up an Everready 1912 model and oh my what an excellent and enjoyable shave it gives. Thanks for any suggestions Bruce WOW a MMOC that does not get a good shave not sure what to say to that other then to check that the blade is not in backwards. Really though .. all the open comb MM that I have used have been very aggressive. Not sure what the problem is with that one. Fuzzy

The great thing about open comb razors is that they help you with your angle. Lather your face up and try shaving if you see lines in the lather (that the comb made) your angle is not right try laying the razor closer to your face until the lines disappear and the blade cuts whiskers properly.

I still haven't shaved with a micromatic but I know you will have folks chime in soon to help you out!! As you may have noticed, there are a few people here who think they are excellent shavers. Then again, there are others who think you should open tuna cans with them. So, be prepared for whatever you get!!!! I am glad you enjoyed the 1912 - now they really are excellent razors. Mind you, keep your eyes peeled for an Ever Ready 1914 - cheap and fabulous!!!

Hi Bruce,
Welcome to TOS. Your experience with the Mirco(Junk)omatic is similar to mine. I could not get a good shave no matter what I did. Yet I have had great experiences with my 1912s, lather catchers and even my featherweight and contour.
What I did with my Micro(Junk)omatic is send it along as a PIF to a guy who bought an Ever Ready razor from me.
Of course there are guys on the forum who swear by the Micro(Junk)omatic so maybe one of them with come along and give you some tips if you are so inclined to continue using the terrible razor.
Good luck, whatever you decide.

I like Micromatics ;D,especially the Clog Pruf. I can't for the life of me,see how some blokes struggle with them. There were millions of these razors produced,so the fan base must have been massive in days gone by. If you give one a fair go and don't give up on it after one or two attempts, you will be rewarded with superb shaves. Cheers Phil.

Thank you for the welcome There doesn't seem to be much of a gap between the combs and the blade, it seems to be to flat against plate of head if that makes sense, thus not allowing cutting of hair. I have enclosed a picture to see if the razor looks fine. Thanks Bruce Attachments:

Your welcome for the errrrrr welcome. That razor looks just fine. Nothing wrong that I can see. The open conb MM is a tempermental beast at best. It is a love or hate thing. I never knew anyone to just sorta like the thing. With practice it is a great razor though. Fuzzy

Just a follow up, I switched out blades and got a great shave from the OC micro matic. It must have been the blade, and I can now see the aggressiveness people talk about. Thanks everyone Bruce

Thanks everyone Bruce BRAVO Bruce! Glad you got it working, yes the MMOC can be quite aggressive I usually like to use it after a few days growth as it doesn't get clogged as much as bar razors

All this talkin bout the Micromatic finally broke me down!! I guess the final kick was when I found one of the earliest model clog prufs in a clean case for under two bucks on the Bay. Well, like a lazy catfish goin after nice pink rubber worm - I was hooked!!
The razor looks like solid brass in the photos. Ya know how brass gets kinda browned but still retains that obvious brass look. I really like brass and could sit and polish the whole day away! Most razors though are coated brass or otherwise not really a solid brass razor and I have yet to come up with one I can just polish old school with a cloth and a can of brasso.
I got a question for all you Micromatic xpirts out thar!! Are these old micros solid brass that I can just polish the snot out of?? Will this be my rubbing nirvana?

I would say polish away. Hell if you mess up the finish I will trade you one to replace it. I have a pretty mice MM collection started. Up to about 8 I think.. in different box's. Both bakelite and cardboard. I am going to concentrate on getting a few more sets that I have seen. You will love the shave from the Clog Pruf I personally guarantee it.

'Exxxxcellent' (said while rubbing hands with mysterious yet evil look). I shall rub away, as you say. Although, now I have to wait for it to get here via Canada Post. Maybe I could hand stitch myself a king size cotton sheet in the meantime to have a rubbing cloth ready. With our postal service, perhaps I might have time to stitch up two! Soon I shall be UNCLOGGABLE!!!
