Used it for years. Works fine for me. Continues to stay in my rotation. Fabulous bargain.

I used Williams for years. A puck in the bottom of a mug, add some hot water and a boar brush...it was all I really knew. Never did go for those cans of foam. I used to worry that Williams wouldn't be made anymore because in the town I lived in it was hard to find. I always bought 2 or 3 at a time. Then I found the shaving forums and discovered there was no shortage of shaving soaps and creams and they came in all flavors. Got a bunch of those and Williams just sort of slipped out of my mind. It's a great product that's been around a long time. I wouldn't hesitate to use and recommend it. It was my only choice for years and could be so again.

I finally tried Williams Mug Soap this week. Rather than using the traditional shaving mug, I milled the soap puck and compressed the shavings into a cheap, plastic container.
The lather and slickness were a pleasant surprise, but I could do without the scent.

The lather and slickness were a pleasant surprise, but I could do without the scent. The scent of Williams always receives mixed reviews at best. Most people feel that it smells like a citronella candle - lucky for me that I like citronella! __________ Jeff

I don't really think of it as a technique but I do the same with any soap I use. I get the brush soaked, add a little hot water to the soap and start working the soap. It seems to work for the Wilkinson's blue bowl, Proraso and others, I just can't get Williams to lather as well.

When you get a paste going dip justvtge tips of the brush into the water. Keep adding water to tge lather by just dipping the tip of the brush until it is right. Will be the best shave in the world. I'll give it a try. For under a $1.50 a puck, I wouldn't be out much if it doesn't work. VHD is fairly in expensive and works well for me.

If you wanna trade a puck or something let me know. I might have something you want to try also. Fuzzy Andy was nice enough to send me a older puck of Williams. I am not sure how old it is. It gives great shaves just like the newer. The only real difference that I see is that it does not have the scent of the newer. Maybe it does not last too long in the box. I also noted there are a few different ingredients. I sent an email at one time and was told they had not changed the formula. I am guessing that the newer ingredients do not really change things. Dunno about that. I think I might send another email and ask. Fuzzy
