With Help from a good friend of mine I recently picked up some of the Feather SE blades. For people not in the know there are new production blades that have cutouts and no spines to fit the early models Valet Auto Strops. ( I think these are the early models) They will also fit the later models that did not require the cut outs. The blades fit just like the OEM ones. I just completed shave 4 on one of these and it was a good shave.
These blades are not cheap. Once you include the shipping and such they are around a dollar a blade. But to get to use the VAS it is well worth it. These Razors can give outstanding shaves, and let's face it.. they are very cool to look at.

these blades work really well in valet razors, especially later models that require the cut out blades.

Dave,
I take it that these blades will work in my VAS? If so I need to find out where I can get some.

I was able to get ten blades last year and can vouch the excellent shave in the Valet. If I can remember correctly I tried one with a spine from a Gem blade in my 1901 Gem jr with amazing results. Gem and Feather, there you go!!

I actually have only used two of them, I am hoarding the rest for a special occasion!! :oI got five shaves from each but I was swapping them out into a half dozen different razors, both Gem and Valets. The best shave I got was with the spine on, in the 1901Gem jr.

I forgot to say, these were the stainless ones not the carbon Feathers.

Agree with the OP. Great blades for the VAS. I did not get quite as many quality shaves as fuzzy but that was just the 1st blade used so we'll see how many number 2 yields.

I am going to try for one more out of this blade tonight. Not really thinking it will be great.. but that is how feathers are for me anyway. But well worth it in my book to use one of these things. They don't fit all Valet razors. I have one where the blade fits, and one that doesn't. The difference was very small, but it meant that the cutouts in the blade didn't quite fit. I don't know enough about Valets to say more than that. Dave or someone else may know enough to make a list.
If you remove a spine from a conventional SE blade and put it on the Feather blade, you can use it in a regular SE razor.
I got a bunch of these blades last year from someone living in Japan, and sold them off to various forum members. That's probably how a group buy will work - get someone (or a vendor) in Japan to send a bunch to one person and then distribute them abound. There are certain package weights that will give you the least shipping cost per blade.

Hey all.
I would love to get some blades for a Valet Auto Strop model C (with the cutouts).
I will gladly purchase some blades if any are on offer.
Does anyone have any experience with drilling a standard SE blades so that it fits in the cutouts of the Auto Strop's blade holder?
Best,
Chuck

There was talk on this thread earlier about the possibility of a bulk/group buy on these Feather's . Is anybody out there thinking of this? I could use 10 or 20. The time to chime - is now! Drilling blades - you might have an idea there Chuck. I have never tried it, but I imagine that the blades would drill fairly easy. If you could keep them clamped in such a way as to protect the edge from contact with anything, it might work. I hope somebody is willing to try! I haven't much for tools so I'm not the guy. Seeing this post come up again got me reading about the Feathers once more. I never had much luck with getting a good shave in a Valet for some reason (only really tried the model c). But, after seeing this thread I hauled one out and popped into my fav razor, the Wester (pretty much similar design to the Henckel Rapide - but it is the original of this type). Due to the design of this razor, the Feather spineless fits very nicely into the Wester handle - and the rest is history! Fabulous combination - late 1800's technology and adventure of design, mixed with the cutting edge (ha!) blade technology of today's brilliant Japanese engineers. Yowser - worked dynamite!!! Time for a group buy!!!! My Wester just keeps on kicking it up a notch!!! (thnx Hoosier!)
