I stumbled across a reference to DE, did some reading on B&B, ordered a DE and was given a SE from a member on the B&B. Not bad for starters. Last night I found a GEM Micromatic on ebay and got it for .99 cents. It's all brass. I had not seen a brass razor before. Is it a bad razor? I can't complain for .99 cents but no one else bid. The name was spelled wrong so I thought that might of discourage people from bidding.

That's the open comb Micromatic. I think it was the only model Micromatic that came either chrome plated or un-plated. I love shaving with mine however this razor will bite you bad if you are not careful.

;D Maybe I'll just shine it up and look at it. If you do that you will miss out on some great shaves. There are some videos here about using those. They give a great shave. Just have to pay attention. I will look up the video here when i get back on my laptop. Fuzzy

I think I've seen the videos. The fella ran through a shave without a nick and in another vid he talked about proper use and angle, etc. Good stuff. Any idea of when that Micromatic was made? Attachments:

I believe I heard somewhere that the Open Comb Micromatic came out in 1929.
I have one just like yours. I think they're actually gold plated rather than brass. They're a classy-looking razor that'll reward you with fantastically close shaves if you pay them the proper respect.
By the way, welcome to TOS! You'll find a wealth of information about SE shaving here. __________ Jeff

Thanks for the info Jeff. I'm looking forward to using it and bought blades tonight.
Any tips on cleaning and sterilizing?

That's a great razor. I have a chrome version that Fuzzy gave me. My favorite razor. If you watched the videos I think you did they were done by Mr Guy, one of the members here. Hot water, a tooth brush, and Dow Scrubbing Bubbles should get it clean.

Do I need barbicide or something similar? Is there something I can use that is a little easier to find? I checked in with the local hair salon supply store and they said I had to have a license to from them.

Give the toothbrush and toothpaste a go to clean it up also. You can also use boiling water. Just need a few drops of mineral oil after in the works. Fuzzy
