Scrubbing Bubbles should also do an adequate job of disinfecting the razor. If you're still concerned about possible contamination, I've had no problems purchasing Marvicide from Sally Beauty Supply and I can definitely recommend it. It's essentially an identical product to Barbicide but I believe it's a bit cheaper. __________ Jeff

Also don't let people talk you down on those cheaper DE blades. They work just fine. Looks like a great haul. Just a little thought here.. I think most the time people worry too much about disinfecting a vintage razor... clean it .. run it through some scrubbing bubbles and enjoy. Fuzzy

I also ordered a Lord L6 to try along with a sample pack of 13 (x2) different blades. Do SE suppliers offer sample packs or is the blade selection limited?

Most like the coated blades you can get from Ted Pella. I like the more common carbon stell bladed. As this is a SE site i wint get into any DE blade discussions. Fuzzy

...got the GEM from ebay tonight, it's been soaked, polished and is now soaking in barbicide. How long should it soak? I'm not of leery about using a used razor. Last minutes doubts I guess.

For 20 years I've used modern multi-bladed razors and tonight I had my first SE shave. I used a GEM Micromatic, no cuts, no nicks, just the instructions form mantic and mrguy's running through my head.
NOTE: I found my courage after half a glass of some good Canadian (6.4%) IPA.
