I've only tried stainless. From what I'm reading, I think I'm going to have to try the carbon steel. Are they rougher than the stainless?

Alan, the stainless blades are smoother and they last a little longer, but they feel just plain dull to me in comparison to the carbons. It is enough of a difference that I won't even bother with the stainless anymore.
With a Treet carbon steel SE blade, which I can get locally, the razor mows right through tough whiskers with the lightest touch. If I use a stainless blade (GEM by Personna or coated stainless GEM from Ted Pella), I have to apply more pressure, and this results in irritation for me.
Carbon steel blades deteriorate very quickly after the first shave. I dry mine off and hand-strop them before and after each use. The first shave is outstanding, the second is very good, and the third yields me a smooth shave at the expense of some pulling.
In spite of my personal preference, most like the stainless better. I think it is definitely worthwhile to try both.

Thanks again Murray. I'm going to try and track down some Treets locally. Sounds like I would like them.

Alan, in my neck of the woods I find GEM by Personna stainless at Walgreens and Treets at Rite-Aid.

May have to pick up some of those GEMs from TP. That price can't be beat. Certainly beats the Walgreens prices over time all hollow.
Those Treet blades you are using, are they blue like the old Gillettes?

Darn, Wanted to track down some Treets but there are no Rite Aids in Arizona. I'll have to see what's available on line. I would have liked to shop local. Oh well.

I find them at a local gas station actually. Fuzzy Don't think that is going to help me much! I notice that the TP link has them in a box towards the bottom of that page. Are those the ones you are getting?
