I've got a 1914 and 1924 in my collection. Both of these razors take standard modern SE blades, but seem a few mm too large, as though they were designed for larger blades. A modern blade does not quote touch the blade guides at each side of the blade holder. There is also a small space left behind the blade, meaning it can be pushed backwards into the razor body. I have made some shims out of cardboard to hold the blades securely in place.
However, my original 1914 documentation mentiones "Radio Steel" blades, and has a drawing of such a blade fitting tightly into the razor, with no spaces to either side.
My question is this: Were the 1914 and 1924 razors designed to use larger blades than those that are widely available today?
This would explain why many users on other forums complain that it is impossible to fit a blade securely into the 1914.

The only difference in the ER Radio Steel and modern blades is the cutout's for the micro matic's are not there. At least with the blade I have that is the only difference. I have never noticed a problem with the blade in a 1914 when shaving. I took a few pictures of a Radio Steel blade beside a modern PAL. I will have to shave with the 14 now of course just to play with it and see if the blade will wiggle around. Fuzzy Attachments:
