........ Now if you'll excuse me I have to go make some better friends ;D And just when I was about to offer you this razor set I picked up for cost - I only paid four bucks too. It is a first off the line 1867 protoype gold over platinum Kampfe razor with emerald lined head, triple rhodium plated handle and blade stropper. Inside the albino whaleskin case there is also an automatic blade stropper with a giraffe elbow handle, a handmade ocelot shaving brush set in rhino horn, a special edition shaving soap from Paris which uses baby parrot fat as a base, and finally, 16 unused wedge blades honed from metal obtained at an ancient chinese meteorite site. Oh yeah, the case is signed by both Kampfe brothers. But with that attitude, I'm keeping it!

Kevin,
I am very jealous. I have the short handle version and I just love it. Of all my SE razors I would rate my '07 short handle and my '07 Elite GEM Jr with the longer handle that is white in color as my two favorites.
Now that I have said that you can't imagine how you need to send that long handle to me for testing. When I am done, say in a couple years I will return it to you with my report. ;D
Now I have to use the long handle from the Elite with that Bar head just to see how it shaves.
I forgot to mention that if you don't send that razor in the next week I will see that your posting privledges on TOS are severely limited. ;D

Thanx MB
There are obviously multiple lengths for these handles. Regarding the wood handles on this type of open frame Gem lather catcher, are there just these two lengths, or do folks know about other wooden handle styles for the Gem?
Also, there was clearly the metal tube handle and the ivorite handle in the Elite kit. So, a minimum of four handle styles. I get the feeling I may be missing a few, or perhaps there were special release handles of some sort??
Fess up!!!

I haven't seen any further styles of wooden handles but there are several types of metal handles that were used on bar razors. These are not necessarily all considered 1907 models, however. Thanks guys!
I shaved with the long handle and then the short handle back to back days and I think I prefer the short handle. Reason being with the long handle it is sometimes a bit awkward to get the right angle and the short handle seems a bit more nimble. That being said, the long handle still makes a great shaver and is nice to look at.
It's on the way, Bryce. I hope the mailman doesn't lose it or something like that.....LOL

I'm looking at an Ever Ready with a short wood handle just like the Gem Jr. in this link. Will it shave as well as the Gem Jr.? It looks like the 1900 (or possibly 1908) version of the Gem Jr.

The 1907 Ever Ready lather catcher gives an incredible shave. If you can get your hands on one, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Attachments:
