Gem Featherweight w/ Pella (3) Semogue 2009 LE #19 C&E Sweet Almond Oil ss Dickinson's WH Floid Vigoroso a/s Musgo Real a/s balsam Guelain Vetiver Edt
Switched the blade from the 1912 Damaskene to the Featherweight to see how it works...I think the Featherweight is slightly more aggressive, but I got three passes out of the SAO and a marvelous BBS shave to show for it. And it's Friday, to boot!

Friday, February 5, 2010 -Grandpa Shave Friday
Razor: Gem G-Bar Blade: Ted Pella Brush: Simpsons Ehsan Pre-Shave: Musgo Real Glyce Lime Soap: Penhaligon's English Fern A/S: Taylor Mr. Taylor
OK...so my grandpa probably would not have used any of these products. There was no Internet and he only used American made products that were available in a small town. Whatever! The Gem G-Bar with the Ted Pella blade gave an outstanding shave aided no doubt by Penhaligon's superior lather and the sheer excellence of the Simpson's Ehsan brush. Mr. Taylor aftershave remains a favorite.

These are amazing times really to be using products from all over the globe. I make no apologies to anyone for shaking it up!!!! I still have to shake in some Penhaligons soon.

These are wonderful times. I simply meant that these excellent products were not available to my grandfather. The corner drug store probably had old spice soap and Williams soap, Gillette Techs, one kind of razor blades and not much more. Without the Internet, getting products from England, Italy, and Germany was probably out of the question.

Used the new G-Bar,Williams and a Walgreens/Personna blade. Got an outstanding shave, as usual, and the G-Bar is really a nice, comfortable shaver.

- Prep: Hot Shower
- Brush: C&E BBB
- Cream: TSD Egyptian Spice
- Razor: '50 Eversharp-Schick G1 Injector
- Blade: CVS Schick Injector (shave 2)
- A/S: Thayer's Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner & AOS Lavender ASB
- EDT: TSD Egyptian Spice EDT
- Result: A decent shave. Only 3 passes and kinda quick. Had a loose blade. Was messing around with the spring in the razor a couple days ago and seem to have "sprung" the thing to the point where the blade was sliding out the one side. Had a bit of a rattle. So I just did a nice little squeeze and voila the rattle stopped and the blade stayed in the razor as it should. No cuts even with the loose blade.

Went with the same setup as yesterday, except I tried the Micro Matic. It was a decent shave but not quite as comfortable as what I've gotten in the past with the other GEM's. The shave yesterday with the G-Bar was simply outstanding. I'll probably use it again, but it is the least favorite so far.

Sunday Night:
GEM Featherweight razor GEM/Personna Stainless blade
Semogue 1305 boar brush Cella Crema Sapone da Barba (soft shaving soap)
Thayer's Peach Witch Hazel (Astringent: 10% alcohol, no -parabens, no burn)
I really like this Semogue boar brush; everything about it works so well. Last time I used Cella soft soap, it aerated more quickly than I wanted it to, with a badger brush. With a little practice, I could probably have made some adjustments. Nevertheless, I decided to use this soap with boar this time, and it produced a lovely lather with a dense, tight structure.
I think I may just reserve Cella for use with boar, since the interaction between them works so perfectly, while I will continue to use AoS and Valobra with badger.

Saturday 2/6Semogue SOC LE #23 IM Stick J.A. Henckels Rapide Pella Gem (1) Generic WH IM AS IM EdT I was a little nervous as I am always am when taking a razor for the 1st drive. With the looks of this one, I thought it would be very aggressive but it was smooth and close. One of the best shaves I have had EVER. The handle is long and has a great balance with the somewhat heavy head. The J.A. Henckels Rapide was originally made to take wedge blades but modern SE blades also fit. More pics in the Feb Haul threadSunday 2/7TGN Silvertip nameless SC J.A. Henckels Rapide Pella Gem (2) Generic WH Alt Innsbruck AS Balm
