Even my SWMBO overlooks things picked up for less than ten bucks!! Just bring her an antique egg cup or something saying you just kept thinking of her when you saw this egg cup, and oh, I also found this cheap razor. Muaahahahahahahahah BULLY... but when she catches on we want pictures of the beating. Fuzzy

Hi all, Could you have a look at this razor, and tell me a bit about it? Things I'm particularly interested in (other than age and type) are whether it'll take modern SE blades, if there is anything obviously wrong with it (I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for) and finally what you think it should cost? This isn't the spectacularly beautiful one I'm hoping to find, just one I'm hoping I might be able to tempt SWMBO with in the interim as 'research'. Attachments:

Hi Rapperly,
Looks like what you have is a 1912-1914 Ever Ready with a small lather catcher head on it. It does take modern SE blades but you have one problem. The razor is missing the spring clip that holds the blade in the razor.
If you look at the front of the razor, up top above the letters E R you will see what looks like two "horns" sticking up. This is where the spring clip is to be located. I see not clip or anything else that would indicate that there is one on this razor.
You could put the blade in the razor and see how it works. I would not have much hope as the spring clip puts pressure on the top of the blade to keep it down in place.

Thanks possum. I'll pass then! This is one I found online - it's in Canada, so too far for me to go to try it out! I realise this isn't the right place to talk about this particular razor, so my apologies if I'm offending anyone - I'm just trying to educate myself. On the bay there is currently a Kampfe bros star razor which, as far as I can tell in my ignorance, looks to be in reasonable condition. The auction says 'It is marked: KAMPFE BROS., NEW YORK, U.S.A. Highest Award, Paris 1900; Highest Award, America, 1901. Patented U.S.A. 8.7.88.2.26&4.30.0183.4.02, ENG., FRANCE, ITALY 4.30.0, GERMANY5.1.01. STAR SAFETY RAZOR, New Model.'. I've done a bit of reading - am I correct in saying that because it is marked 'new model' it will accept modern SE blades as well as wedge blades? Thanks, and please tell me where to go if I'm doing this in the wrong place!

No problem posting your question where you did. Would be better if you had put it in the Ever Ready Forum but we can let things slide. The important thing is you got the answer to your question and some advice to avoid the razor due to the missing spring clip. I suggest that anytime you have a question about a razor on eBay make a post in the proper razor subforum with your questions. One or more of us will give you an answer. You may also want to send a PM to most anyone of us here for advice. Especially D.Irving79 the #1 SE guru in all shavedom or that "wascally wabbit" Fuzzy aka wchnu. I will be glad to help as well. Using PM will make it a bit more confidential about what you are seeking. Have a great day and a great shave tomorrow, hopefully with an SE razor. OOps, just realized that it is tomorrow in New Zealand. Well have a great shave next time you are inclined to shave.
