Hey guys!
My name is Nick and I am very happy to have found out about TOS from a member on B&B and SRP. I have been a member of Badger and blade for almost two years and SRP for about a year now. I really am into this wet shaving craze.
Since being someone who wet shaves, I have built up quite a collection of old razors and hones, strops, etc. My wife thinks I am a little wacko for it, and I can't really blame her.
I started with DEs first and went from a Merkur HD, then a 40's Super Speed, to a gilette fat boy, Gilette slim, then a Merkur slant to Gilette NEW to a GOODWILL. The NEW and Goodwill are my favorite DEs of all time and I really didn't feel anything for the Merkurs. I also went to Feather blades after using Derby for a few months. I did get my Micromatic during this period, but I didn't know how to use it and thus cut myself a lot and discarded the razor as crap..
Being always just a little bit disappointed with the shaves from a DE I was always curious when it came to straights, which is how I got into SRP and straight razor shaving. I love my straights but they take up a lot of my time when I want to shave during the work week and getting up at 5 am didn't help. I have about 12 straights and a bunch of hones including a 3 line swaty, a norton 4k/8k, a BBW, a coticule, a DMT-E 1200 and a Naniwa 12k super stone.
I use straights on the weekends when I have a lot of time for stropping and honing if I need it.
Well, this week I decided to retry my Clog Proof after seeing a post on B&B about holding the razor near the head with two fingers instead of near the bottom of the handle. This helped me so much that I am now getting Straight Razor closeness from my Micromatic! The rest is history and a quick SE obsession has developed since then. I have a G bar and a 1912 now on the way in the mail.
For lathering I usually like to use cheap Boar brushes and Tabac soap with glycerin as a skin lubricant.
I hope the site develops like it's bother sites have and I can't wait to be a part of it.
