I mentioned some time ago I had picked up an auto strop and was going to try it. It came with 2 original blades, unopened. I opened one and the grease was still pliable. The blade is clean and shiney. I'm not sure if these blades need to be stropped before use. I'm sure after all those years there may be some degradtion of the edge. Anyway, I figured out how to load it and am going to try it this morning. It's an OC and requires the cut-outs in the blade. If it starts to drag I'll stop before I tear my face to ribbons. I like the little black metal box it came in; very convinient for traveling.

I tried out a 1940's NOS Valet blade in a Model B the other day and it went quite well for me. I chose to strop the blade prior to use.
I am curious to hear how this works out for you.

I tried the Auto Strop this morning. The blade definately needed to be stropped. It didn't nick or cut me, just pulled a bit. I did a one pass with the grain. Seems like it would be much better with a sharp blade. I do have to say I like the feel of the micromatics and 1912s much better, just a personal preference. I don't think I'll use the Auto much so I'll probably get rid of it.
Thanks for all your help with this guys, Alan
