Lovely razor!! And a genuine 'what is this razor?' thread. WooOoOhoo!!
I'm gonna start with an opening bid of Kampfe Star circa 1904-1907. Any takers?

Well it's not a Gem or an Ever Ready. I guess it has to be a Star. Oh look at that, it even says Star! LOL.
I have no idea as to the year, but I would think it's earlier than a 1912 considering the ornate nature of the head!

After diligent research in the Waits Compendium I believe you razor to be a Kampfe Bros Star No. 1 circa 1919. Often referred to as the Old Reliable Star. Info can be found on page 17 of the Kampfe section of Waits.
It is a great looking razor and will be an even better shaver. As far as SE razors go I prefer the lathercatcher heads like this much more that the 1912 and later styles.
Enjoy shaving with this fine instrument.

Yeah, I am finding that kind of late too. I imagine this model had a range of years it was produced. Possum, does Waits address that or suggest a range, or just plunk it out there as 1919??

Rocket,
No date range. Just good old heading at the top of the entry for this razor. It shows a newspaper/magazine ad for the razor. That ad says nothing about the age but Waits does.

Thanks for your help, gentlemen!
I appreciate your research, Possum. Maybe I should get me one of those Comprehendiums.
I stropped the blade on pasted balsa, then on leather. The razor provides a close shave, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The Kampfe brothers did indeed produce a fine instrument. Didn't catch any lather, though. ;D

It uses regular blades right? Fuzzy I previously used the half-hollow(ish) blade that came with the razor, but I just now stuck a new Gem blade in there. We'll see how it works in the morning. Oh, wait...it is morning. Well, then, I'll let you know in a few hours. Tomorrow's going to be a rough day. Oh, wait...it is tommorow....

Yes, indeed. Regular single-edge blades fit, and the one I tried worked great.
