Bought a pretty much unused chrome OCMM here in nyc on saturday for $5. I sterilized it yesterday, and today I picked up a pack of blue stars to give it the first shot. Now, I have never used a Blue Star to shave with in my life having stuck to Treets, I had about a week's worth of growth, and I was using Omega cream for the first time in a LONG time so a lot of things were stacked against me having an ideal result. The result of all this was that the Micromatic absolutely OBLITERATED the beard-and I have a wiry beard. No cuts, no weepers, no redness or burn, none of the touch ups I'd need with a 1912 or 24 or the extra pass of the g-bar, nothing. Only complaint is that it got clogged with hair and I needed to open it for rinsing a few times but that is more from what I put in front of it. This thing is absolutely brilliant as a shaving tool.. I don't know what you guys hate about it so much. I have fairly sensitive skin and didn't slaughter myself, I just got my face really hydrated/clean, worked some cream into my face real well and let it sit for a couple of minutes, rinsed that, re-lathered, and went on my way with no pressure. It didn't even bother me atg under the nose... I think you need to use a slightly different angle with it than you do most gems, seems you need to pull away from flat a tiny bit more than with the others. Incredible razor.. Now I want to find a clean gold one! Oh, btw, Gem BS blade seems superior to Treet, not quite as sharp as a fresh treet, but it doesn't seem to corrode and fall off during the first shave like a treet does.

Glad you liked the OCMM. It's one of those razors that some people don't care for, while others love it. I'm not sure but I think that the majority of us here like it. I love mine. I have two, both chrome. One was a PIF from one of the members here. It is pristine. I liked it so much I bought another in not as good condition as a back up in case my good one ever breaks. On the Micromatics I prefer the chrome finish. It seems to hold up better for me.
Good Luck with yours,
Alan

Great to hear you like the thing. I get great shaves from mine. I have like 9 of the things I think. The clog pruf is also a great shaving razor. I am not sure that I would rate it above a 1912 and the older Lather Catcher models are great too. Nothing at all wrong with the OCMM.
The Blue Star's are great too. I use them and Treet and PAL's a fair amount.

My OCMM ranks first among my SE razors. I have a cased Clog Pruf in superb condition which I also like very much but I get the closest shave from the OCMM. __________ Jeff

Fuzzy I got mine off of one of the sites for $1.99 ($3.10 shipped) - cased and in practically NOS condition. __________ Jeff

$1.99 Jeff? Wow, I'm going to have to start looking at some of those sites. Haven't done any real on-line shopping as I'm not to internet savy. Guess I need to learn.

Alan It was a great deal, no doubt. It has the price $1.25 written on the case in wax pencil; I'm certain that was the original price when it was for sale in the corner drug store some 70 years ago. I only ended up paying .75 more for it all these years later. There's a blade box in the case that had one of the original Micromatic reversible blades in it. I don't think I'll ever be trying that blade out. __________ Jeff
