Just wondering what kind of hats you guys wear. Being folically challenged (thats "bald" Fuzzy ) I have worn hats for a lot of years. Mostly ball caps beginning with the original "CAT" hat (that's for Caterpillar Inc, mfg of heavy equipment) in the 70's and of course one for my favorite baseball team the Pittsburgh Pirates. Also have had many golf hats too. Well about a year and half ago I found that I had some skin cancers and my dermatologist recommended a wide brim hat for use in the sun. With that in mind I began looking for a nice all purpose hat of that style. I just happened to be on SMF and saw a thread in their Gentlemen's Parlor about the Tilley Hat (http://www.tilley.com/default.aspx). Ended up getting one of these www.tilley.com/The-TW2-Tilley-Winter-Hat.aspx in Dec 2009. Great hat for the winter. Kept the head very warm and dry. Then last spring I bought the summer model of the same hat. www.tilley.com/The-T4-Cotton-Duck-Hat.aspxI have to say that these hats are one of the best investments that I have ever made. Easy to care for and take one heck of a beating. And from what I read on the SMF site they last forever. So, if you are interested in a great hat that will last a long, long time I recommend one from Tilley Endurables.

I wear a lot of hats. Both ball caps and hats. I have cowboy style..Indiana Jones...straw golf hats. I had a skin cancer taken off my face so have to be more careful these days, but I have worn hats forever seems like. Grew up on a cotton farm.
Those Tilly hats look great.

The Tilley is a fine hat. I really enjoy hats and have a huge collection of everything from fedoras to newsboy caps.

Bryce, I like a lightweight full brim hat to keep the AZ sun off me. Is the Tilley T-4 fairly light?

Alan,
I would say it is fairly light. Not nearly as light as a baseball hat but what is nice about the Tilley hats is the way they fit. They don't depend on the hat band gripping your head but rather they sit very comfortably on your head. It is hard to explain but I have found them to be very comfortable and I often forget I am wearing it.
I suggest that you look at their website. They answer a lot of your questions there and if you need more answers simply give them a call. Can't remember if it is a toll free call but I have called them a couple times and the person who handled my call was very polite and equally helpful with my questions.
Let me know what you think after you do further research.

Thanks for the advice,

What color did you order? By the way, when you get it take a pix and post it so we can all see just how good you look in the world's best and most versatile hat. One tip about the hat. I wear mine daily. The T4 in the spring thru fall and the T2W Winter hat the rest of the year. Do not be afraid to clean them. The Winter Hat gets done immediately after the winter season by the dry cleaner. The T4 gets it once a month. Helps keep them in great condition and really nice looking. And washing the T4 is a snap.

I got Khaki. This is a hat I plan to wear in the sun out in the desert, so I wanted something light. Great hat. The full vented top really makes a difference. These are well made hats. Thanks for the tip!

OK, so the cold weather will be approaching soon. I think I'll have to look into getting the Tilly T-4. It gets cold in the morning in the desert.
Just need to decide on color.
