Any of you chaps shaved with one of these? The blades that came with my set appear to be like new but no amount of stropping gets them anywhere near shave ready. :'(Apparently they were not designed to be honed. Attachments:

They are wedge blades, but smaller than the normal Star,Gem blades. They won't fit in my stropping handles so I can't even attempt to hone them on my Norton.

Can you use a modern blade in it? If so you have nothing to worry about as far as using it on occasion. Hey, if it takes the modern blades why not start a "pass around" until all of us here at TOS have had a couple tries at using it.

Why can't you hone them using just the blade and the hone, no stropping/honing handle

A guy on shavemyface cut a normal SE to fit this set (the ones with thinner blades). Maybe it would work?

I've been mulling over how to get my own WIlkinson 7-day set, identical to this one, up and running. I'm a sort of collector/user--If I can't eventually use something, I always end up selling it in the end. Here's my thought--I have another Wilkinson set as well, a three-blade set. Both sets came with several blades in their original wrappers, so they're clearly as sharp as possible after 50-plus years. I haven't tried shaving with either set yet, but all indications are that I shouldn't expect to find a blade in sharp-enough condition to really use. So, absent finding a way to hone the blades, I was wondering if taking one of the two strops I have and setting it up with paste would offer a back-door way to get these blades up and running. Anyone? If I can't get it to work, there may be two sets up for sale soon! Oh, and hi! First post...

I think I have heard of people getting the wedge blades back sharp enough to shave. Someone who knows more will wander along soon I am sure. Fuzzy
