Am I the only person who thinks that the greatest satisfaction is taking a simple soap.. a classic razor.. and a old school after shave.. and getting a nice comfortable smooth shave.
I do have some nicer stuff. Nice creams and soaps and such.. but I find that the best feeling shaves to me are the ones that I get from Williams soap with a carbon steel SE blade and Aqua Velva (or similar old school AS). Call me crazy..... but then again I know the name well.

Call me crazy..... but then again I know the name well. Fuzzy Fuzzy, I can agree with you about the use of a classic razor and to a degree the AS. I have tried the Williams and the Vander Hagaan soaps and found them less than satisfying for me. I seem to get better lather from the more upscale or artisan soaps and creams and I like their scents much better as well. But I do share your satisfaction of shaving with something other than a overpriced multi blade cartridger razor and a similarly described can of gooy air. As for the A/S stuff. I very seldom used the stuff until I returned to traditional wet shaving. I usually used A/V or Old Spice and on special occasions the 4711 that was given to me 30+ years ago. But now that I get a really close shave I can't handle the alcohol in the more traditional A/S products. I know that A/V used to have an alcohol free product and I used it regularly. But that is off the market and no longer available. So I stick to ASM and such without the alcohol. I do have a bottle of TSD Old Spice Type EDT that gives a pretty good copy of the Old Spice scent. Just wish I my face could take the alcohol as I really loved those two products.

I too like using the old tools to shave. Rather than seeing shaving as an inconvenience that has to be done, I look at it as an opportunity to take my time and enjoy. A nice clean shave revives me. In my opinion, you can’t do that with a can of gel and a disposable razor. I’m not concerned that it takes longer, I enjoy it. I just get up early enough so I don’t have to rush. I have a few of the more expensive soaps and creams. I like them a lot. However, I always find myself coming back to the basics. For me, that is usually an alcohol based AS, a boar brush, and soap like Williams.
