Here is my new Rubberset I found at the local antique mall. I'm pretty sure it's horse hair. It was really soft right from the start, and it whips up a great lather. Here is a picture of it next to my VDH, my first brush which I really like except for the too small handle. My son has pretty much "confiscated" the VDH for his use.

Good stuff there. I would agree it looks like horse hair. Never used one myself though.

I like the softness of it, but the floppiness is bugging me. I'm thinking of cutting it down. If that doesn't work, I'll re knot it with a boar knot. I love the handle, but at the moment I don't love the bristles.

I love the handle, and Omega makes a boar brush with a similar handle so if I want a stiffer brush with the same handle I'll get one of those. I'll save the horse hair for those days when I want something a little softer to lather with. It did do a great job with the Williams I picked up today though. It actually surprised me.

Nice brush! May you enjoy it in good health my friend! I like the softness of it, but the floppiness is bugging me. I'm thinking of cutting it down. That's what I like about the VDH brush, it's just too small. This brush seems to get softer every time I use it, and it soaks up water like a sponge. I'm still not sure how much I like it.

VDH is just right size. I would consider it medium size brush-for me anyway. Anything 23-25 knot is medium I reckon.
Boars interesting about them is their ability to take on characteristic. With daily use you'll see this. They can become softer at the tips in as little as 14 days or possibly longer.
Bristle strands can be likened to that of fishing line where Baddger's finer hair can be compared to the hairs on your forearm. Both species have traits that are both positive and negative. I appreciate both types of brushes along with Horse brushes.
