I know very little about brushes. Found a box at a flea market today that had several razors I wanted but also had shoe shine brushes, something that looks like a wire with a green marble at each end that are touching, supposed to be a blade sharpener, and other stuff I didn't want but had to buy since he wouldn't split it up. Anyway the little one was identified as a shave brush. I'v googled and cant find much about it, except an excerpt froma 1916 book that looks like a directory of pharmacies in New York. It's made by a company called HELDTITE. Anybody know anything about this? Cleaned up the Ever-Ready, may try it just for the heck of it.

You did okay Trooper. If the knot in the ER goes south on you just have it refurbed with a new knot. I have several old brushes that I had that done to.

I soaked the ER in antibacterial dishsoap and rinsed it thoroughly. Used it this morning and it worked great. Any idea how old it is?

After that ER dried it looks really good. The hairs "fluffed" out and are really soft. I'm going to start looking into the old brushes a little more, hadn't really paid much attention to them before,
I'd sure like to find out about the HELDTITE. The patent number on it was issued in 1865.

Sure can't find out anything about them, that's for sure. I've been told that it's actually just a brush the barber cleaned hairs off of cutomers with after a haircut, that it's not even a shave brush.

I've been told that it's actually just a brush the barber cleaned hairs off of cutomers with after a haircut, that it's not even a shave brush. unless the bristles are cut I am not sure about that. The brushes to brush off the loose hair have longer more floppy bristles to wisk them away. Are you sure it is not a shoe polish brush? or not stiff enough for that? Fuzzy

It could be a shoeshine brush, didn't think about that. The bristles are pretty stiff.

Thanks, yeah I found that through google patent. It's definitely an old shave brush according to that. I might have a couple antique dealers see if it's worth anything, if not it looks cool just setting there.
