Hi guys. I heard about The Original Safety a couple of weeks ago, got interested in these razors and found one on ebay that caught my eye. I have had a Micromatic for a year or so, and have enjoyed shaving with it when the mood hits me. I was able to snag a little Gem 1912 in it's original metal case, I think it might be a travel razor, if they made such a version. It seems that the handle is a bit shorter than one would expect, due to the small size of the box it resides in.
I cleaned it and disinfected it, and have now enjoyed a couple of very smooth and close shaves in the past two days. I lathered up with Cella. These are nice shavers. I have 3 or 4 boxes of Gem and Treet blades, and maybe I'll pick up a few Pellas over time. Anyway, I just wanted to stop by and let you know that I like this forum, and I like these razors.
I'm now on the hunt for a leather catcher, so wish me luck!

Good luck, Gary!
Good to see you here, by the way.
I've been using a G-bar and a Featherweight, with good results, though I do need to alternate the GEM with a milder razor.
I managed to pick up an old GEM, also, but I'm not sure what it is. I think it is a lather catcher, though I don't know where to go to identify it more exactly.
Enjoy your SE shaves, Gary -

Welcome the the 1912 club. Glad that you are getting good shaves from them. Well worth the effort to pick up the full size model by the way.
And good luck on the Lather Catcher.

Brothers, welcome to the 1912 club as well as TOS! I'm familiar with your post in SMF as I am a regular there too! As you might expect we are here at TOS to help ya out with your SE shaving questions. By the way, if you never get another SE razor the one you have will do you as good a job as any other including DE and Injectors. Just my very opinionated opinion!

I've been using a 1912 for about a month now. They deliver a very close shave and my five o'clock shadow doesn't start showing until the next morning.
