I'm only 3 shaves in with Pella blade, but it is by far the best S/E blade that I have tried by a huge margin. ;D It's the only S/E blade that improves with use. Very impressed.

Yup.. the coated Pella is a fine piece a shaving equipment. I use the other brands just as much cause I get them local.. but the Pella is a great blade no doubt.

Exactly!!! That's why I split an order of 400 with Dave. Get 7 great shaves from each blade.

I tend to agree with Possum . . . I have no trouble getting at least seven or eight comfortable shaves from a the Gem PTFE coated stainless blades that I purchased from Ted Pella. On the other hand, I can't say but what I get about the same result with the "Gem by Personna" stainless blades from the drugstore. I won't necessarily say these two blades are identical, but from the standpoint of performance, I don't see a perceptible difference. Regards, Tom

i think robert paulsen over @ B&B threw them under the microscope one time and found the grind pattern was different on the 2 blades.

I got a decent pic just with the macro mode on my camera. Here is the pic. Pella on the left, GEM from Walgreens on the right. Oops, forgot to mention that I get a good 7-8 shaves from Pella blades as well. I still use Wlagreens GEMs and PAL blades from a local grocery store, just to help make sure they stay on the shelves.

For me they shave different and better than anything else I have tried. Here is what I can get on average with different blades and the quality of the shave increases with each blade
Korean SE: About 1 shave PAL: 2 shaves GEM Blue Star: 2-3 shaves CVS/Walgreens GEM: 3 shaves Pella GEM: 4-5 shaves

Great shots MrGuy! Your camera is impressive.
Startling difference between the two edges. The Pella style almost seems to be a hollow grind. You can tell from the pic that the quality of the grind is much better than the drug store Gem. It would be great if you have any other brands at all that you could take pics of in the same manner for comparison. I would be curious to see a Treet, or Gem Blue for example.
Thanx for that MrGuy.

Yes, I've seen the micro pictures of the two blades before. That is why I mentioned that I'm not claiming that the two blades are the same. My only comparative claim is that, to my mind and on my face, these two coated stainless Gem's seem to shave about the same as each other and I find that they also seem to last about the same as each other. Regards, Tom

With all the positive press they get, I figure that I would have to like the PTFE-coated GEM stainless from Ted Pella, but I don't like the GEM by Personna stainless at all. So, in truth, chances are pretty good I wouldn't like the coated ones from Ted Pella, either.
The blades I would order from Ted Pella are the GEM carbon steel blades, Item 121-1, which I am guessing would be the same as the GEM Blue Stars and the Treets.

PTFE coated GEM blades. If you have not tried them send me a PM with your mailing addy and I will send you a couple to try before you go and buy the 200 box. You can also get them from Connaught Shaving. I have order from Paul several times and found his service and shipping to be top notch.

Hi Bryce -
When I do make an order from Ted Pella, at least part of the order will be the 121-1 carbon steel GEMS.
I very gratefully accept your offer of a couple of Ted Pella GEMS with the PTFE coating (121-3). Otherwise, I may never know exactly what they are.
I'll send you a PM with my address.
Thank you -
- Murray
