I made a little comment over at B&B when you mentioned getting excited about getting a new razor. Ha! I just read this and wondered, hmmmm?? Oh yeah, I babbled on about getting 'excited as all get out' when there is a razor coming. Understatement indeed!! Well yeah!!! Of course!!! (But quite frankly, this situation has been the most fun regarding a razor that I have ever had!)

THE NEW WESTER IS HERE!!! THE NEW WESTER IS HERE!!!It arrived this morning in all its glory!! Looks great! First thing tomorrow this puppy is carving some stubble - YAHOOO!!! (Hoosier Trooper - well done! I'd give you a big online kiss, but that might just look sort of twisted! So, I will pass on that, and just say once more - THANK YOU!!!) Unfortunately I have a crappy camera and haven't resolved that problem yet. It actually is a very nice razor. The handle appears to have brassed over the years, but only the tube and not the head insert - so it has this rather pleasing two tone thang going on. The head is fine. A modern SE blade seems to sit in there real nice. The case is great for such an old piece. Here we go again - I feel it comin on....... WooOoOoOHoooOooOooOOOOO!!!I shall dutifully report on the shave in a couple of days and give this puppy its own thread. ;D

Outstanding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't know how much the handle would clean up, or if that was the natural color. And you're more than welcome, I'm just glad it worked out. He says he bought it brand new so if you keep track of these kind of things it has set in a large mansion in Charletown, Indiana for the last however many years.
Next one I'm working on is a cased Valet Autostrop Model C that is supposed to have everything if anyone's interested in it. I'm on vacation this week and probably won't get to see it for a few days.

I love knowing the history of an item. I always make note of where stuff comes from at a minimum since much of the time the history is not available. So, this is cool to know. However, it seems kind of odd really because of the age of this piece. If the is alive, and he bought this when he first started to shave, say at 15, if he bought it in 1930 he would be at least 95 by now, probably older. This razor seems older than 1930 though for a few (perhaps unfounded) reasons. With the competition coming out (Henckel and others) just after 1910, I imagine it would have been pretty tough for a small line company to compete for another twenty years. Also, the case has a padded lining on the top, more indicative of turn of the century cases. If that were the situation he would be like 120 by now!! So, either way it seems unlikely. Dunno though - could be so!! I will certainly accept that he has had it for ages and ages in a mansion in Charleton Indiana. I like that!! I especially like though that it has finally a good home!!!

He's still alive and kicking, just turned 100 a couple weeks ago. Still drives. He told my friend that he bought it new, but he could be confused, or he may have bought it as a NOS type thing after it sat for awhile in a store. I also got a Star Kampfe that I sold to someone on B&B that wanted the last one I had but missed out on seeing it in time. He really didn't want to let it go, said it was his favorite, but finally sold it.
Still waiting to see if he finds the Valet Autostrop.
Oh and it's Charlestown. I just saw how badly I butchered the spelling!

100 year old dood. Wow! I am honored actually. Totally awesome.
I haven't had time to get to a thread for this yet, but
what an excellent shave this style of shaver gives! It is so 'drivable'. It handles great and shave very nice and close. My wife was totally impressed. She just sort gave the old cheeks a rub and asked 'what razor did you use? That might be your smoothest shave yet.' I hadn't said a thing to her before she just sort of popped it out. And, I have to agree that I got a truly great shave from this razor. I don't say that much with razors anymore as I get better at it and my selection of razors narrows down.
So far three shaves I think?? Just a great razor with the Pella blades. I am still jumpin up and down on this one!!!! ;D
