Got a hold of a Mosin/Nagant 91/30 sniper model to try out tomorrow. Will take it out to the desert and try some 200 - 500 yard shots with it. We'll see how it does. While I'm out there I think I'll put a few rounds through the old Police Positive. I know that one will do fine.

The 91/30 shot great with both the iron sights and the scope. Good long range plinker. I have the carbine also. I took the bayonet off and put a synthetic stock on it. It too shoots great and makes a great camp rifle. As usual, the police positive was a pleasure to shoot (as long as you like wheelguns). I do need to get a new holster for it.

Found a good deal on a holster for the Police Positive from a guy at work. It's used, but in great shape. $5.00 was a lot easier to pay than what new store bought ones cost. Man, I can't believe the prices on leather holsters now a days!

A friend let me try out a 1907 Savage 32 auto. I took it out to the desert and it shot great. Was made in 1909 but hadn't been shot much. Still in great shape. Basically it was designed as a home defense gun. Nice little auto.

Never seen one of those sounds fun though. My Dad has a old smith from around 1897 that I am dieing to shoot. It looks rough but has been shot very little.

Been watchin this thread for awhile and finally decided to chime in about my firearms.
Originally got an H&R Topper single shot 12 gauge shotgun for hunting small game. Not one to want to waste ammo I figured that if I practiced enough I could learn to take only one shot to bag my prey.
A year or so later a friend of mine got me interested in trap shooting. Got a Remington 870 trap model. Great gun. Really enjoyed trap shooting for about 10 years.
Tried my luck at deer hunting and bought a custom made .30-06 from a local gunsmith. It was one he made for himself and wanted to sell. Since we were both of similar build the gun fit me pretty well. I got into reloading the shells with a buddy of mine and actually used it to hunt deer as well as in the summer to help a few farmer friends get rid of their groundhog problem.
As for handguns, I have a Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 magnum caliber.
I have not used any of them for over 15 years and who knows may never use them again. In fact I don't have any ammo for them. Just keep them around since someday I may go to the store and pick up some ammo just to see if I can still remember how they work.

I've still got a Topper in 20 G that I take out every now and then. They last forever. I had the 44 mag in both Smith and Wesson and Ruger. I actually liked the Ruger better.

When I bought the Ruger I was also looking at the S&W Model 29. It was a couple of years after Clint Eastwood made the Model 29 famous. Really tempted to go the S&W route but at that time they were selling for a premium price. All I want the gun for was hunting so I decided to go with the Ruger. Not sorry I did.
Do have one funny story about it though. A shooting buddy of mine had his 12 yr old son out with us on Sunday afternoon at the target range. I took the Ruger with me and we let the boy try a few shots of light loads. We warned him that the thing would kick. Of course he ended up hitting himself in the forehead with the first shot. Did manage to control it on the 2nd and 3rd shots though. But that was enough for him.

I lucked out with the Model 29. I bought mine about 6 months before the Dirty Harry movie came out. It was just too big for me physically. I could deal with the nasty recoil (it drives you straight back more than up like the Ruger) but I just couldn't get my hand around it comfortably. I was looking into trading or selling it and was going to take a real beating on it. Nobody wanted a 44 magnum. Then the movie came out, and everyone wanted one. The price of the gun new jumped almost $100, a lot of money in those days. However, they were in such demand, none of the gunshops in my area could get them. I was able to sell mine for almost $200 more than I paid for it. I took the money and bought a ruger, 100 rds of ammo, and a nice holster to fit it. I still had money left over. The Model 29 is a great gun, but I like the Ruger better. I can get my hands around it. Unfortunately I got rid of it many years ago. I wish I hadn't.

Nice flint lock. I want to get a good cap and ball pistol to play with. They look hella fun.

That's quite a rifle Dave! I'm no expect by any means but I know a little about black powder guns and that one was put together very nicely. The wood working is superb and the hardware was fitted flawlessly. Do you shoot it much?
Hey Fuzzy, you really ought to get a cap and ball revolver. I've had many and they are loads of fun. A lot of smoke and noise. They are pretty inexpensive to buy and shoot.
