Ya, the B&B post kind of fizzled out, I'm hoping to get a little more attention here Thanks for the effort on the links though!

Here's some detailed info on the USR razor you show:
United Safety Razor Co., U.S. Patent No. 950113, 22 Feb 1910, filed 2 Mar 1908. Same as Shrp-Shavr, Randall, and Union patent. Single-edge rib-back blade, closed comb guard, may have knurled or smooth tubular handle or handle with pierced round holes and bands of knurling. Razor head is identical to Shrp-Shavr. Cased with two cardboard or metal blade boxes. Circa 1911.
This razor is very similar to the Burham razor that I have. If the blade seems a bit loose in the razor simply press the face of the head (the part with the USR on it) in toward the back of the head just a bit and the blade will stay tight in the razor.
I have found this razor to be okay, not the greatest. It is indeed very light and perhaps that is why I can't always get a BBS shave with it. But it is fun to use even if I only get a DFS.

Thanks for the info, Bryce! I'll have to mess around with the head a little to see if I can get it to hold a blade a little more secure. The metal feels like it can be bent quite a bit. I don't have too high of hopes for this one, due to the incredibly light weight, but it is interesting to display, for some reason it seems to be the razor most people point to and say "Wow, look at this one!"

Good job on that Possum!! Where did you source your info? Also, I was wondering if that would razor might hold a single edge blade with the two holes in it - the #121-12 Single Edge, No Notch, Carbon Steel Blades, box/200 at Ted Pella www.tedpella.com/dissect_html/dissect.htm#anchor1623602With the two indentations, it appears that it might accept such a blade and hold it tight. Although, I don't know anyone that would buy 200 blades just to check it out!!

The info I gave say it uses a ribbed back SE blade. I use the Pellas in my Burham Razor and the head is very similar the way the blade fits in ti and is held in place. So I would think that the modern Pella would work.

I just got done messing around with the head as Bryce suggested, and the blade is now held quite firm in place. The way it is now, the indentations sit just barely under the spine of the blade, but don't touch anywhere. I suppose with some more careful bending, I could make it so the indents fit nicely right at the bottom of the spine, but I'm OK with things where they are. I'm going to give it a spin Sunday, my next day off, it still seems a little "wrong" thinking about shaving with this little razor

Andy, I really shouldn't take credit for my suggestion. I got the idea to buy the Burham and the instructions for how to keep the blade place in the razor from our very own, "Mr SE Razorman" Dave Irving. Thanks Dave for your helpful tip. Hell, thanks for turning me onto SE shaving.

Holy Cow, I almost forgot to update this thread! Shaved with the USR both Sunday and Monday. Not the worst shaves ever, but certainly not the best shaves. Results were more than acceptable, but it really wasn't much "fun" getting there, know what I mean? I don't know if it was due to the light weight of the razor, of maybe I just built it up too much and I was over cautious. Oh well, I guess the USR will remain a mostly display razor.
