Anyone ever actually shaved with one of these? They show up on Ebay occasionally and every once in a while one pops up that looks nearly new. The blade was a proprietary one but believe it or not they are still being made although they are rather expensive and difficult to source. I've always thought they looked neat but that wide head always put me off when it came to the thought of actually shaving with one. Apparently I'm not the only one that felt that way because I don't believe they were around long and it may serve to explain why so many of them look brand new.

Those have too many sides to them. Never used one myself.

I have one of the DE versions. Not something I bought but it was a gift along with a couple other "junkers" from my barber friend. Talked to Dave and he said get some carpet cutting blades for it. He uses those in the straight edge version of the razor.
Used it once and will never use it again. It was so bad with those blades that I think I will just pitch it in the garbage versus giving it to someone. Thing is dangerous. Either draws blood or can't cut the hair.
Oh, I hate it!

I have both the straight and DE versions on display, never had the urge to shave with either.

I did my best to touch up a NOS blade for my DD double. It didn't work worth a sh*t. I haven't picked up the Stanley carpet blades yet either - seems a little too adventurous somehow - like eating beef pancreas or something. I can usually come up with an alternative in either situation! Besides, this is Double Edge.

I know it's on the DE dark side but I had to ask. Shaving with it does look like a misadventure in the making. As far as razors go though I always thought that it had a certain visual flair.

Which version do you have?? I have used the metal handled one. I haven't bothered yet to pick up one of the 40.s models, but they are kinda cool. Note: Steel Model photograph from CountryJoe's website

the stainless uncoated carpet cutting blades work for me quite well in either the DE or SR version of this razor. YMMV definitely applies with this type of blade

Dave, do you do anything to prep the blade or just pop it in straight in from the box? One of my near by antique shops has a small box full of the SR variety for less than 10 bucks each and I'm always tempted to pick one up.

Fortunately, my mental health day off from work was time well spent. I purchased a Durham Duplex Demonstrator from a local antique store. On the way home I hit Lowes for some PERSONNA Carpet Knife blades and a supermarket for a couple pucks of Williams soap. I stropped the blade on my hand the same as I always do before I load. Haven't shaved with it yet but I surely will first thing tomorrow
Update: Couldn't wait so I did a single pass shave with the DDD (Williams soap and an antique Magna brush followed up with Masters Bay Rum.) Good shave but rather hard to rate as I had little to nothing to actually shave. It definitely warrants further investigation.

keep us posted on how it turns out once your able to push some whiskers out ;D Why is it that when most of us started wetshaving we were looking to shave less often. Now that we get shaves that last 12+ hours all we can think about is shaving more often
