Simpsons only offers the Colonel X2L in Best Badger but Ehsan (AKA Heirkb) asked if I could special order the Colonel in Two Band Super Badger. Thus, the Simpsons "Ehsan" was born...the best of two worlds; backbone, soft luxury and scrubbiness. I thought it was such a good idea that I decided to stock the brush as a regular item. That is a nice looking brush. I have never used a Simpson, might have to get me one before long,

I do not know a lot about brushes. Can I ask what the term 'two bands' refers to?? Are there then one band, or three or more band brushes??

I do not know a lot about brushes. Can I ask what the term 'two bands' refers to?? Are there then one band, or three or more band brushes?? The standard Super Badger hair is three band super badger; the two band hair is in much shorter supply. The two band hair is a bit courser with good backbone (but soft tips) making it ideal for soaps. However, there is a bit of a breaking in period with the Two Band hair and it takes several shaves before it reaches its full potential. Some people prefer the two band hair to three band hair (and vice versa). It really just comes down to personal preference.

The "band" refers to the rings of color seen on the brushes hair. In this case the black ring/band and the lighter blond ring band making this brush a "two band" a three band would have an additional ring/band of color to the hair like in the photo below. hope that made sense

I purchased one of the Ehsan/Simpsons from Phil several months ago. I have been using it steadily. It is my best and most expensive Badger. I have a Rooney 3/1, coral handle and a Truefit and Hill (3/1 Rooney) with the onyx green handle. The Ehsan has a slightly larger knot then the 3/1's and is superb at everything. It works on soaps, creams and face or bowl lathers with great performance. If I only had one brush, it would be the Ehsan. A perfect balance between firmness, stiff and softness.
The Rooney and the Truefit and Hill are a lot less money and a smaller brush. They also perform admirably and even though, they are smaller, they provide enough lather for a three pass shave. On the face they feel similar to the Ehsan, but with a smaller knot.
All three feel just right on your face when lathering. Not to soft, but with a firm feel.
