Kampfe Bros./ Star razor currently on the 'Bay? Most of you've probably already seen it. Decorum would normally dictate not discussing auctions until they've closed, but in this case, with 17 bids and already at an astounding $300, I'm guessing I won't be dashing anyone's hopes of getting a great deal on it.
So I was wondering, what's up with that razor, why the clamor of attention? Is it the earliest known Star? (I thought there were some a bit earlier?). Is it because it's in the original can which is in great shape?
BTW, if you've not seen it, the can shows 4 patent dates ranging from 1880 to 1886. And no, I'm not in the hunt on this one. Just really curious on the skyrocketing value.

It is not the earliest Kampfe.that had a wooden handle.1886 or 1888 I think the ebay one is. Makes my investment look pretty good. Actually that looks like the correct tin for the first model Star, but the handle on the razor doesn't look right. Attachments:

Thanks! For the record, used one on Sat. and one on Sun. Not the greatest of shaves IMHO. I had a used blade with (I thought anyway) only a few shaves on it for Sat. with the not so shiny one. I was very cautious, as the feeling wasn't that secure, but a lot of dragging convinced me to try a fresh blade with the shiny one on Sunday. Much better start, but when it came time for my ATG pass, particularly on the neck, I again felt some skipping and dragging. Probably just had the angle off, but this one certainly didn't inspire accolades as a 1912 or a 1901 would. Then again, if I kept the angle correct, might have been a much more positive experience (not bad overall mind you, just not the quality/comfort to which I've grown accustomed with virtually any of my other razors). They'll get more work a bit later. More razors o try!
