Of course nothing beats pumpkin pie NOTHING! Nothin' 'cept Sweet Potato that is! ;D Grrr that stuff pisses me off on more than one occasion I have accidentally bitten into one thinking it was a pumpkin pie as they look identical almost. Not saying potato is evil just saying that it and pumpkin should not be sold or served next to each other.

I can never really tell the difference in a good sweet tater pie and pumpkin pie. Both are great.. but then again I do like to eat pie so maybe it just all blends together or something.

(I kind of like the Pie Trinity above -The Three P's of Pie - Pumpkin, Pecan and Peanut Butter! I may adopt these Three P's. I will just have to check out this Peanut Butter one first though.)

Have been traveling a lot lately so I've been eating out a lot also. I went into a resturant the other day and decided to get a piece of Pecan pie. I love pecan pie but it is something I usually don't eat unless I am in the deep south. Every time I eat it above the Mason-Dixon line I'm disappointed. Now before I get any hate mail I'm not implying that we can't cook good pies in the north, I'm just saying I like the way they are made down south better. Maybe I just don't know where to go to get good pies up north. Anyway, when I got home I decided I would try to bake one myself. Got a recipe on line, some pecans from the guy down the sreet who has a couple of trees, and baked a pie. It stunk. I guess I won't be having any more Pecan pie until I go down south or find a place around here that makes good home style ones. If anyone has any suggestions let me know.

Alan,
Here is a recipe for Pecan pie that I got from a Cast Iron Cookware Collector's Forum that I belong to. Very easy to make and it tastes great. It is a southern recipe.
Re: DESSERTS, CAKES, PIES, ETC. Reply #11 - Dec 23rd, 2007, 1:49pm Pecan pie by: C. B. Williams (This recipe was given to me by my neighbor Dorothy Robinson) 1- 9" pie shell 1-C sugar 1/4 C melted butter 1/2 C light Karo 3 eggs beaten 1/2 t vanilla extract 1-C coarse chopped pecans ( or decorate with pecan halves, full covered) mix: sugar,Karo, butter, vanilla. Add beaten eggs, mix. Pour into pie shell. Add pecans either chopped or halves, (your preference) Bake 375 deg. 40 to 45 min. until pecans brown.
By the way, the pie shell is a frozen one bought at the grocery store. Get the regular shell and not the deep dish variety.

Rocketman, Since Fuzzy is slow on the draw getting back to you (probably out looking for some carrots) I will give you some guidance. Check this link for more info on AV. www.aquavelvausa.com/products.shtmlI use the AV Musk but the Ice Blue stuff is great too. Also have some old AV Balm type stuff. Welcome to the AV lovers team! ;D
