Comparison of the blades new on left old on right New blade is shorter by 1/4 inch or so My modified indents Razor unlocked Razor locked Sorry my camera battery was dead and had to charge then I got busy anywho.... The new blade is smaller though not as much as my above post seemed to exaggerate. I made sure that modified indents fit perfectly so that the "nubs" that hold the razor in place weren't pressed in and held the blade properly. I think I am going to make the indents alittle bigger or deeper and give the shave another go. Thank you Kevin for the advice on razor angle I will try it with a steeper angle. I'm positive the fault lies with either my technique or the modified blade I just have to figure out witch one it is -_-; I am also still curious to know how one modifies the razor itself to fit a current blade appreciate the advice gents

You guys have piqued my interest in the Auto Strop. Looks like I will have to break mine out, alter another blade and give it a run today, that is if I have the time this morning. If not today, maybe on Friday morning. Will let you guys know how it goes.

I saw where Dave was taking about modifying a auto strop to strop modern blades. never heard of anyone being able to shave with modern blades in one with out modifying them.
After looking at the picture I went and checked a valet blade against a SE that I pulled the spine off of. There is a slight difference with the Valet being wider. But not buy much at all. I really had to look to see it. I don't think it affects the shave. probably tomorrow I will clip the blade to fit and try a shave with it to prove to myself if tat is the problem of not.

I use my Valet once in a while and have only removed the spine off an S/E blade. I don't modify the blade in any other way. With a bit of a wriggle it fits fine. Try it yourselves.

I had my second shave today and it went much better I'm happy to say I nipped the indents a little bigger just to be safe but I think it was Kevins suggestion to keep the razor flat on my face that did the trick. It was very mild shave though I got a DFS from it but not a BBS and though the angle worked it felt very akward. It is definetly going to take some getting used to but was fun and a new experience Thanks for all the help gents

Remember the mantra: pull off the spine, it'll fit just fine pull off the spine, it'll fit just fine pull off the......well you get the idea. (It does for me and lots of others anyhoo)
