That tightness can backfire a bit - trying to get the thing open with moist/wet hands. Tricky.
Heckuva razor though.

It would seem that this razor was marketed at least as early as 1916 and it is entirely possible therefore that ads could be located for 1915 - perhaps even 1914. I would like to suggest that this razor may be more easily recognized if referred to as a 1914 Ever Ready, after the patent date. Regardless, it remains my favorite Little Lather Catcher! I always meant to post this link to an advertisement in the Milwaukee Sentinel in November of 1914. This advertisement is likely one of the earliest for this style of ER razor and was run late in the same year that the patent was obtained. Introducing.....the 1914 Ever Ready !! news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1368&dat=19141122&id=GmAVAAAAIBAJ&sjid=QAoEAAAAIBAJ&pg=2730,1162298 The ad stated the handle and frame was built solid enough to last an eternity. Well, mine is now close to 100 years old and it still shaves like day one! Viva la Little Lather Catcher! ;D

And now I gotta wait patiently for it to be mailed from Canada!
That is a cool ad.

Well, the 1914 arrived yesterday and it looks even better in person. Other than a few spots on the handle that might polish out it looks brand new. Check out my reflection in the first photo. If what I've read is correct this one is an early model because it has small nubs as blade tops. I've read that the later ones had hooks that the blade slid under. Loading the blade was a bit tricky cause the blade wants to ride up over the nubs when the lid slams shut. I found that I can move the blade into place by taking a little pressure off the lid and positioning the blade by hand. Plan on giving it a try later today.

OK, finally got around to using this 1914. It did a very good job mowing down two days growth with a new GEM/Walgreens blade. It felt very similar toi the 1912 and 1924 models. I have small hands so it's not an issue for me, but I wonder if somebody with big hands would have trouble with the small handle.
Up tomorrow is my first time with a Valet Autostrop and a modified GEM blade, so there may be a blood bath!

I have pretty big hands (and big feet, you know a real cross to bear : and I find this razor size is fine. Good luck with the Valet!!!
