Just curious if anybody out there uses some of these so called 'advance techniques' when SingleEdge shaving. I do not. J hooks just make me plain nervous, and buffing, well, I have some sandpaper if I need that. Anybody have or use certain techniques regularly that they would recommend?? thnx! signed - Mr K.I. I buff the chin but thats the only way to get it nice and smooth like i likey!

My "Oil Pass" is basically a blade buffing pass. I basically do it all over my face. But do the most work on my neck and around my chin.
Never tried the j hooking technique. Don't need it cause the blade buffing works fine for me.

the gillette slide actually is NOT the gillette slide. i have a 1900 gem catalouge that mentions that technique. gem slide anyone?  |

As part of my touch up pass I blade buff my upper right cheek and jawline (I don't know why, but it is never as smooth as the left side - no matter which hand I use or how I stretch)

I blade buff heavily with pretty much all of my razors. Don't know, just seems to work for me. I also use the Gem slide most days.

Well there are definately folks here employing some strategies I have been missing. Perhaps I will try shaving in the buff too! Errr, with the buff!

I used to J-hook going N-S on my neck/jawline turning in towards my chin. But then I stopped when I discovered I didn't really gain anything by doing that.
However, a week or two ago when I last used my 1912, I started J-hooking on my XTG pass (diagonally down from sideburn towards centerline - NE-SW/NW-SE?). I start the J-hook when I hit my jawline, hooking in towards my chin/centerline. I found it really helps my XTG pass and lessens the need or irritation from my ATG pass if I do one.

I blade buff on my cheeks (mutton chop area) and chin (soul patch) because they are more dense than other areas on my face and I'm too lazy to do more passes. I have a very tiny swirl on the right side of my neck that doing tiny "j" hooks on seems to work well instead of buffing in every direction. I think "special/advanced" techniques were made for people with abnormalities in their beards. Someone with sensitive skin or a standard N-S growth probably wouldn't benefit from these techniques at all and would find them useless. Everyone has a different face and growth so you just gotta try new things and see what works. Uh, you gonna tell Mantic that he is using the wrong name for that particular shaving technique? Ooooo look out! ;D Any of you guys here that Mantic has decided to try out SR! I hope he does just so we can see more videos, plus if he opens up to trying SR he may be willing to try SE ;D ;D |

heres something new (??) to try: angle the razor HORIZONTALLY on your face, but instead of taking it across your face that way, take it downward on the slightest angle so in the mirror it almost looks like its going horizontally. its a virtual hair killer |
