Hello Everyone,
I'm wanting to know what differences there are between a Gem 1912 model razor, and an Ever-Ready 1924. Do they shave similarly, similar shaving angle, etc?
I have purchased a Gem 1912 but haven't received it yet. I have tried the Ever-Ready 1924 (it was the first and only SE razor I have used). I've had some decent success with the Ever-Ready.
Curious to know how you all would compare them. Thanks
Joe

The Ever Ready is a lot more aggressive imho. Still a nice shaver though,if you take your time with it.

There is nothing wrong with the 1924,..but I think the 1912 is a much better razor. Easier to use and gives a better shave.. but as usual YMMV.

Thanks for the comments guys! My first shave with the ER 1924 I was using too steep of an angle and I did a cheese grater on some of my face *yikes*. Thats what I get for diving right in. Took a couple of days off to rest my face and came back to it - laid the head of the razor flat against my face and then just slightly eased off. That made a big difference. As soon as the 1912 gets here I'll give it a go.

I have no experience with the 1924, but I too believe your gonna love the1912. I've had one for about 3 weeks and love it. Let us know how you make out.

I've got both razors and have used them extensively in my rotation. I prefer the GEM over the ER.
Reason for that preference is basically the feel of the razor in my hand and while I shave. The GEM is not as top heavy feeling as the ER.
In addition, the ER with its funky way of opening the head seems to hold water much more than the GEM and I find that it denigrates the shave even if I shake the razor after rinsing.
Now with that said, I must say that I could live with either one being my only razor. I can get a BBS shave with either one.
I may suggest that once you get up to speed with these two razors why not try out a great GEM or ER lather catcher style SE. Now there is a great shaving razor.

I just finished shaving for the first time with the Gem 1912. Wow! Very nice. Not a weeper in sight. I did nick myself slightly, but no irritation to speak of. AS applied and all is well. It does seem less aggressive as compared to the ER 1924. But, it also could be that I was using an appropriate angle with the 1912. I still think I was off angle when shaving with the 1924. Very pleased !!

Upon further review hehehe ....
I see that I didn't get quite as close of a shave as I initially thought I did. Probably a matter of sticking with it, and letting my face adjust to the new blade/razor style.

The same thing happened to me. When shaving for the first time with my 1912, I did a one pass and thought it was great. When i went to apply WH, I noticed that I had some rough edges. I re-lathered and did another pass. All was better. Although the shaves with the 1912 were closer for me than my DE, it got even better as I got my technique down. For me, the angle is the thing.

Good to hear you guys are enjoying success with the SE razors. I found that with 3 passes that I usually get a very good DFS. Still have a few places that need touch ups. Mostly on the neck and around the chin. Don't expect to get a really great shave doing only one or even two passes. Remember this beard reduction and not beard removal.
What I do is use mantic59's blade buffing technique with a special "last-pass" oil that leisureguy from SMF developed. Works wonders and I get a BBS everytime. Do on occasion get a weeper or two but they usually quit bleeding with a quick wipe of my towel.

All my shaves with the 1912 are now 3 passes. Every now and then I need to do a little buffing, but usually the 3 passes do it for me. Not to knock DEs, but for me, I get a closer shave with the SEs.

I did four passes this morning. But, I'm taking it very easy, very lightly. From just a few shaves with the 1912, I am feeling where I can use a little more angle, maybe a little more pressure since I'm going so easy.
I think in time Ill be good to go with 3 passes, and some touch up. Maybe some skin stretching will help. All in all, its going nicely.
thanks again for all the input!
