This may be to new of a razor to be discussed here; however, I used a G bar for the first time this morning. It was a very nice shave. So how do these fit into the Gem timeline?

I am no expert, but I think someone told me 1950s. I am also really curious about the two different styles, if they were just from two different plants, or if one was before the other.

Dave will throw something at me here soon.. BUT the G bar..push button and feather weights give DFS's. They will never rank with the 1912's or Lather catchers in my book.. but usually inexpensive and easy to pick up,

The only GEM that I have tried and absolutely do not like is the micromatic. Do have a featherweight and a contour both of which give me BBS shaves but it is a bit of work to get that. Most of my problem with them is the grip on the handle not being just right for me. Of the new GEMs I would recommend either of these over the micromatic. Have never used a G-bar or Pushbutton model so I can't comment on them.

I do not have a contour. I need to pick one up though. Have not shaved with one yet.

G-Bars would have to have one of the most durable coatings ever applied to a razor. :)You rarely see one with bad plating loss.Very futuristic design for its time also.
