I got a little time to record and post a quick tips video for the Micromatic, for anyone who would like to have a look. Let me know what you think. www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUG2B_-D0d4

Nice job! I've tried the MM twice and both times the results were less than satisfactory, but I'm not going to give up. It just feels so different than the 1912's and the G-Bar I've used with such great results. This weekend I'll try your technique and see if it helps.

Let me know how your shaves turn out. If you discover any tips yourself let me know, I'll make sure they get in a video so more people can enjoy the MM.

Quite informative MrGuy!! Well done!
The technique with the MM is likely what underlies either a good shave, or a bad result. I liked that you talked of the two camps surrounding this razor. Perhaps those getting bad results might view your video! I have read numerous posts about the 'pinky support' as well as the 'head pinch' grips for the MM - however it is great to see them in action! You do a very nice job of demonstrating a technique that doesn't use pressure, but rather the weight of the razor. That will be helpful for many new users I would think.
I am not a fan of the head pinch grip. I think that more weepers come from that approach than any others. You have demonstrated it as a viable alternative. I would have perhaps suggested it can cause some troubles. I think particularly in an ATG pass that the head pinch grip causes too much variability in angle and may contribute to the problem. But again, it is good that people see the grip.
You also did a nice job demonstrating the loading. Well done.
I like your style! You are calm and reassuring. You tell it like you see it and don't imbellish with unnecessary stuff. The video quality is decent and the sound is good.
Overall I would say you did a really nice job and have a useful video there. You are definitely adding to the knowledge base surrounding razors - and that is not only helpful, but important!!
Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the great feedback, Rocketman! When I get a little more in depth with the YouTube features, I think I'll add a little disclaimer about the pinch method. I don't use it myself and you make some good points The video quality kind of bugs me, but it's all I have to work with at the moment. I don't think it takes away from the info though, at least that's what I'm telling myself

I usually rest the end of the handle on my ring finger, I'll try your pinkie method tomorrow.

Bravo.. great video. I bet there are a lot of the MMOC that are getting brought back to the front of the rotation.. I know mine is. Thanks for the work on that.

Wonderful Video Sir!!!! ;D ;D ;D I believe that anyone that was having trouble getting a decent shave with a OCMM would find this video very enlightening. I find I use the pencil grip when using safety razors on the WTG pass. The "pinky" and "head pinch" grips were very well presented by you though, it took the guess work out of new shavers having to visualize what these grips should look like. By showing that all you did with your hand was support the razor from falling was superb and really help emphasized the light touch concept. I prefer the "spoon" grip you mentioned when doing a ATG pass as it help to remind me to keep my wrist LOCKED in a straight position and move my arm instead. Your loading concept was something unique to me as well, I always make sure that the blade is evenly placed between the notches but the angle while in the mechanism had never occurred to me. I have never had any trouble but will be something I look at in the future. A camera even without a live audience can be intimidating so bravo for having the courage to get in front of one. The fact you presented the information in such a calm and professional manner only helped to allow the viewer to absorb all the tips that were given, kudos I say!

Well done! Bravo ;D
I will have to get the OCMM back out for a spin sometime soon. I went a little nutso picking up Valet's so after I get some more Rolls and Valet shaves out of the way, maybe the OCMM can show up again. Not a bad razor, but the 1912 and G bar (and of course lather catchers) always ended up with a better shave. I will look into the blade angle when loading next time.
Thanks!

Even though I'm perfectly happy with my 1912 and it's results, Mr.Guys video inspired me to obtain an OCMM and give it a try. The razor has not arrived yet but I am looking forward to it. I will need to be sure to give the initial try on a morning that I have plenty of time.
One question, I've also always been intrigued by the "Slant" razors, does the OCMM give a comparably close shave, or does it surpass the "Slant" in terms of closeness and quality of shave? (I realize this is a YMMV question, but in general terms what do you with experience with both think?)

One question, I've also always been intrigued by the "Slant" razors, does the OCMM give a comparably close shave, or does it surpass the "Slant" in terms of closeness and quality of shave? (I realize this is a YMMV question, but in general terms what do you with experience with both think?) DD I can only tell you my personal experience using both razors because as you said YMMV. I have a Merkur 39c slant and it happens to be the best DE I have used. Both the MMOC and the merkur do an excellent job giving a close shave IMO, however in terms of closeness both are the same to me but they each have there strengths. The slant is the best razor I have found to get a tiny swirl I have on the lower right side of my neck. Doesn't matter how sharp a blade I have used (I use straights also) this spot always seems to elude a cutting edge except for the slant. The MMOC is one of (in not the) best safeties for mowing down a few days growth of stubble. I have used it to shave up to a 5 day amount of growth with relatively no tugging In conclusion both razors give a nice close shave the slant does better with odd growth patterns and the MMOC mows down thick stubble comfortably. As always YMMV either way we want to here what you think. Good luck with your shave
