Are these carbon steel blades all the same but with different packaging?? Tried them all, with exactly the same results. One or two good shaves, followed by rapid free fall.

If I am not mistaken, they are all made by ASR so I wouldn't doubt it. It would be more efficient production-wise.

I would like to hear more about this, also.
I can't tell any difference between the Treets and the GEM Blue Stars, and I, too, have surmised that they are the same thing. Some say the Blue Stars are coated, but to my observation they're clearly not.
I ordered some PALs to compare, in case there is any difference. I believe the PALs are blued, so there is at least some difference in the way they are made.
I'm guessing that the GEM carbon steel blades at Ted Pella (Item 121-1) are the same as the Blue Stars and the Treets. They also have PALs (Item 121-20). After I try the PALs, I plan to make a bulk order of carbon steel blades from Ted Pella.

I happened to have ordered some PAL as well.. and they certainly are blued. I can't find my little pocket microscope to verify, but they both look like they have a double bevel grind. The grinds look very similar but the PAL appear to have a slightly longer initial grind. According to tedpella.com they both have a three facet edge. However, I just can't see that third facet. I will try again after I find something to magnify a little.

etoyoc, have you noticed any difference in the shave between the PALs and other carbon steel blades, like the Treets and the GEM Blue Stars?

Based on only that 1 shave, I would say that a Blue Star is better. However, as we know... lots of things can throw off a shave or it could have just been a meh blade. I did notice when stropping this blade this morning one side felt rougher than the other.... so today's shave may just be a function of that one blade.

Interesting reports here.. I Find that there are very little difference in the shaves.. but then again I am a ham handed country boy redneck so might not be attuned to the subtle differences that some can pick up on.
I use all of the carbon blades as I can get them local. PAL Treet Bluestar are all with in just a few minutes walk or a short drive. Gotta love that.

Just had a kick ass shave with a Blue Star in a Clog Pruf. ;D I have dipped the blade in alcohol and will see how the next shave goes. The new Blue Star felt much sharper this time than my regular Personna's. Longevity has always been a problem for me with carbon blades but I'll give this blade a fair trial.

Tried my first TREET brand today and was very impressed. The blade vault looks identical to the GEM/Personna and says it's made by ASR. The blades look identical except they lack the GEM wording. Am I correct that these are carbon steel and not stainless?

The blade had a few dark spots on it this morning, didn't really look like rust. I looked at a Personna blade in one of my other 1912's and it was spotless. Shaved as great as yesterday.

Be interesting to see how fast they drop off for you. I love using them, but most here seem to think they get dull too fast. Let's see how it goes with the you. Fuzzy

Yeah, I'll see what it does in the morning. I looked a little while ago and it has more dark spots, but none on the edge. It's probably not a real accurate test because I only shave about half of my face and my beard is probably "medium", not heavy by any means.

I don't have any doubt that the Treets are carbon steel. I can't distinguish them from the GEM Blue Stars, and both "stain," typical of carbon steel. Both also deteriorate quickly. For me, the first shave is glorious, the second is very good, and the third pulls something fierce but still yields a very good shave.
I tried the PAL blades, whiich are blued carbon steel. They felt duller to me than the Treets and Blue Stars. I don't think I'll bother with them anymore.

I've found the Blue Stars and Treets to be wonderful on the first shave and good on the second,if used on consecutive days. If you let them sit in your razor for a week after shave one, they become next to useless.
