I'm a fan of the big ol' baton handle Gem. As many of you guys know from my posts at another place, the OC Micro-Matic is nowhere near my favorite Gem. ;D How some of you guys can get it to shave well, I have no idea. I keep thinking mine must be broken or bent or something. You been using it to pound in tent stakes again? Fuzzy

I have not gotten my hands on one of the the wooden handle ones yet.. some day though I will. Fuzzy Fuzzy, What I find strange about the '11 and the '07 handles is the former handle is quite long. Most of the SE lather catchers have longer handles though not all of them. And the latter has a very short handle. Go figure that I would like two razors with very different handles almost equally.

Your micromatic is not bent or damaged. It is just a piece of junk. I had one and I almost threw it away. But instead PIFd it to someone looking for one. It was just not a good shaver for me.

I'm fairly new to wet shaving but I quickly dedicated myself to SEs. I really love how nice SEs in orginal box can be had so cheaply in contrast to the rediculous prices for DEs.
On that note I've got a grip of razors I have yet to try but I really like my 1912. I can go with one pass and be pretty satisfied with the results.

Not only are the basic 1912 SE razors a good bit cheaper than your average DE they are in my opinion more fun to use and provide just as good if not better shaves. Once you get the technique down you do need to get your hands on a "lather catcher" model from 1900 to 1911. Now those are great shavers. On that note I've got a grip of razors I have yet to try but I really like my 1912. I can go with one pass and be pretty satisfied with the results. Get your technique down and try another pass or two in different directions and you will find you get an even better shave.

Right now, my favorite (and only SE) is my 1912 w/ ornate travel handle. I sold my LC (wish I hadn't) and also got rid of my MMs (Clog Pruf and OC). The only other SE I have is the Valet Auto Strop I'm trying to get rid of - I haven't tried it, and don't plan to, to be honest. Just saw a Gem Jr. LC with the small (wood?) black handle on Craigslist for $10 (cased, w/ a few blades and stropping handle).... lady already sold it though....
