There is a vintage Micromatic and Double edge blade ad on the Bay at present, dated 1932. The first Gillette TTOs that I know of came out in 1934. I had always assumed that Gillette invented TTO razors.

Yeah that is a nice ad!
The patent for the micromatic razor holder was filed in 1929 and granted in August 1930. The first micromatics hit the shelves later in that year - thereby beating the pants off Gillette regarding the first 'TTO' razor. It was the first use of a pinion operated by a 'control member or grip' in the razor business.
Gillette had a rough year that year what with having it's humiliating and hugely expensive suit with Auto Strop, as well as seeing ASR take the design lead with the one piece razor.

I always thought, previously, that the Micromatic was the Single Edge response to Gilette's TTO.
Thanks for the info.
